Template Requirements

Please read the below carefully as these points have been written to ensure you have a smooth-running Template and Fitting Service. These measures are intended to help guarantee your satisfaction with the services we provide.

GENERAL

  • Safe Site Access: Provision of safe and secure site access, including parking permits (for loading/unloading in restricted areas), is necessary. During the initial templating appointment, we assess access for safety, and any changes or additional costs following templating will be communicated to you.
  • Work Surface Maneuverability: Work surfaces that are difficult to position may require additional manpower due to manual handling health and safety regulations, potentially resulting in additional charges. Any extra costs will be communicated post templating.
  • Deposit Requirement: A 50% deposit, cleared at least 3 working days before the agreed template date, is mandatory if you do not have an account with Sussex Stoneworks Ltd.

TEMPLATING

1. Sinks

It is the responsibility of the customer to organise the disconnecting/fitting of their sinks.
  • All undermounted sinks must be set or battened in position and set down 1-2mm from the top of the carcass level.

    The disconnecting/fitting of their sinks.

For information on how best to do this, there are many video guides available on YouTube or alternatively call the office on 01273 526136 | See example photos.

  • We require the sink make & model number at template stage (failure to provide these details may result in a delay in fitting your worktops).
  • All sinks must be installed a minimum of 90mm from the back wall and 75mm from the front edge of the worktop to the cut-out (if there are two undermounted bowls they must be se a minimum of 75mm apart).
  • All overmounted sinks need to be removed from carcass but they must be present on-site so sizes can be taken when templating.
  • We will always template for a standard overhang on an undermounted sink which will be at the templater’s discretion unless a specific overhang amount is requested by the client. This may mean that certain sink accessories may not be able to be used so please check this prior to templating.
  • Kitchen installers would normally be responsible for securing the undermount sink in place prior to the worktop template. This can be done with the use of either battens, straps and frames, or a combination of these. One of the easiest ways to secure any undermount sink is by using 18mm marine plywood secured so that the sink sits 2mm from the top of the carcass after cutting out the sink shape and sitting the sink

2. Taps

It is the responsibility of the customer to organise the disconnecting/fitting of their taps.

  • All taps need to be removed but they must be present on-site at template stage so sizes can be taken (we do not disconnect or reconnect taps).
  • All tap hole positions & hole sizes must be clearly marked out on site by the client at template/fitting stage. This can be done using masking tape and a pencil mark ‘x’ where the holes are to be drilled.

3. Hobs

It is the responsibility of the customer to organise the disconnecting/fitting of their hobs

  • All hobs need to be disconnected and removed from carcasses but must be present on-site so sizes can be taken.
  • We also require the hob make & model number at template stage (failure to provide these details may result in a delay in fitting your worktops).
  • It is a recommendation by Sussex Stoneworks Ltd that there must be a 75mm minimum clearance of stone on all sides of the hob. Failure to adhere to this recommendation is at the client’s risk.
  • If installing a flush-fitting hob, then small frittering of the rebated stone edge can occur during the fabrication process (material dependent) so please bear this in mind when specifying appliances.

4. Carcasses/Units

All carcasses and units must be level and fixed securely so they do not move easily

  • AAny leg supports required for breakfast bar areas must be on-site and ready to agree fixing position.
  • All end panels must be in place and secured prior to templating as if the carcasses were ready to receive the worktops.
  • The final level of the worktops will only be as good as the level of the units.
  • Should any panels not be fitted at template stage then Sussex Stoneworks Ltd accept no responsibility should any issues occur due to these not being in place.
  • Please ensure that there is appropriate support within carcass units to allow for the worktops & appliances, especially to front rails of hobs and sinks to handle less kitchens that only have a thin aluminium frame as these areas will require additional support to be installed.

5. Cutouts

  • Certain cut-outs may require strengthening bars to be installed in the underside of the worktops, this can only be determined upon receipt of templates and will incur an extra charge. The necessity for strengthening bars will be determined by the nature of the material being installed and the size & positioning of the cut-out. You will be notified of any extra charges upon template confirmation.

6. Clear Workspace

  • If replacing existing worktops, then they must be removed prior to templating. This allows the carcasses to be viewed and assessed; advice would then be given if any additional work needs to be carried out before the new worktops can be fixed.
  • All surfaces must be clean & clear of any debris, appliances or anything that may prevent the templating service from taking place.
  • If SUSSEX STONEWORKS LTD have to move/remove items restricting workspace (including appliances)
and damage becomes apparent, then SUSSEX STONEWORKS LTD cannot be held liable for
repair/replacement as the above conditions were not met for having a clear workspace.

7. Wall Preparation

  • If any walls around the worktops are to be plastered, they must be done either before templating or after fixing the worktops.

8. Suitability

  • SUSSEX STONEWORKS LTD are not responsible for ensuring that appliances are suitable for the worktop chosen, this is the responsibility of the client/designer.
  • SUSSEX STONEWORKS LTD are not responsible for ensuring that carcasses are suitable for the worktop chosen, this is the responsibility of the client/designer.

9. Overhangs

  • It is the client’s responsibility to inform the templater of what overhangs they would like on all areas of the worktops. If nothing is stated at template stage, then we will template according to our standard overhang dimensions.
  • The maximum unsupported overhang that we will allow for 20mm (minimum) thick worktops is 300mm. Anything above this will require additional support to be supplied by the customer. Please see images below for previous support design options.

     The maximum unsupported overhang

  • Please be aware that standard undermounted sink overhangs are usually between 5-8mm which may result in certain sink accessories not working with the sink cut-out. Please discuss sink accessories with the templater should you want to use them, and they will inform you of the pros & cons of using them.

10. Template Is Final

  • The templates are the definitive copy of the finished worktops and changes cannot be made to these after templating has been carried out without re-templating the job which will incur additional charges. In some cases, minor alterations may be made to templates, however these will need to be agreed on in writing and are at the discretion of SUSSEX STONEWORKS LTD staff.

11. Contact

  • The following day after templating you will need to be available to speak on the phone or email to discuss any issues or changes that may have occurred and confirm costs. Failing to do this may cause possible delay in fabrication and fitting of the tops.
Please ensure we have every relevant contact number/email address on the order form.

FITTING

  1. If any appliance has been re-connected after templating, then this will need to be disconnected prior to fitting.
  2. Tiling in all areas must take place after the fitting of the worktops.
  3. In the rare event of plasterwork being disturbed during fitting, all making good is the responsibility of the client.
  4. Our fitters are not qualified gas, electrical or plumbing engineers so we are unable to take any responsibility for disconnecting or connecting any appliances.
  5. Excess weight must not be applied to the worktops after fitting as this can affect the joints or break the worktops.
  6. If other trades are working on-site when fitting the worktops, then clients must ensure that the area we are installing the worktops to are clean and dust free as we may not be able to fully fit the worktops and will require a return visit to site which will be chargeable.

Additional costs (minimum charge £100 + VAT) could be incurred:
  • If the above conditions are not met at the time when the work is due to be carried out, causing delay for our fitters.
  • If the job has to be aborted and a new date will have to be made.
  • If less than 48 hours’ notice is given for cancellation of the template or fit date.

Should you have any questions regarding the above or if anything is unclear then please contact the office on 01273 52613
